主讲人简介:Dr. Liu is currently working on theory and modeling of macroscopic instabilities in fusion plasmas. In particular, he has been working on magnetic feedback and kinetic stabilization of the so-called resistive wall modes that can pose severe limitation on the advanced fusion plasma scenarios, such as those foreseen for ITER.  He worked at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden from 1999 till 2008, holding various positions: post-doc in 1999; assistant professor during 2000-2003; associate professor during 2003-2008. He is also presently an adjunct professor at Chalmers and a scholar of the Thousand Talents Plan(千人计划) at the Southwestern Institute of Physics, China. Since 2008, Dr. Liu has been working at CCFE, as a Senior Fusion Theorist.  Dr. Liu has so far authored/co-authored over 180 peer-reviewed journal papers, over 40 invited talks at international conferences and other 180 conference contributions. His total citation number was over 5000, with H-index = 41 in November 2016, according to Google Scholar.

内容摘要:This talk will introduce some recent modeling results on macroscopic MHD instabilities in magnetically confined fusion plasmas, in particular in tokamak plasmas. Dr. Liu will give a brief overview of the topics, followed by specific examples on the physics and control issues for two of the most important instabilities – the resistive wall mode and the edge localized mode. The drift kinetic theory for the resistive wall mode has been one of the greatest developments in recent 10 years by the fusion community. Active control of this most global, and thus most dangerous instability in tokamaks, has been extensive research subject for almost twenty years now, with some of the state-of-the-art results to be shown in this talk.  Understanding physics associated with controlling large edge localized mode, using magnetic perturbations, have proven to be a difficult and not yet finished research task.  Some encouraging results though have been obtained during recent years, which will also be reported.
